HELENSBURGH and GLASGOW

We set out after breakfast, heading for Helensburgh to another bed and breakfast.
We headed to Oban, a port city as we had heard good things about it.  We found a place for lunch and then went for a walk around town.

On our way again.  We stopped at a pottery in Arrochar which we had seen on Location, location, location a while ago.  I bought a small jug.
Then it was off to Helensburgh.
Catorina greeted us, showed us our room and invited us to tea and scones in the lounge.
We met a couple from Queensland there.
We settled into our room with a view over the water.

We decided to have fish and chips from The Wee Kelpie, voted the best chippie in Scotland 2014.

Boiled eggs and pickled onions on the counter

The meal was very tasty.

The next day we visited Grasgow.  We walked to the station and caught the train and were in the centre of the city in about 40 minutes.  A city sightseeing bus was right there so we bought tickets and hopped on board for a general overview of the city.  We saw the museums, university, Georgian terraces and gardens.
After leaving the bus, we walked up Buchanan Street, the shopping street of Glasgow.  We went to John Lewis for lunch.
Buchanan Street.

The Riverside Transport museum was our choice to investigate, so we hopped on the bus down to it.
It was very interesting.

Two exhibits

Time to return to Helensburgh and then go out to dinner.

Dessert

In the morning, we bade farewell to our host and hostess after breakfast

We were headed to England.
We made a slight detour because of family history.  An ancestor lived in the Gorbals in Glasgow.  Not much is left of the original tenements so it was difficult to imagine life there in the 1850s.
An old building in Gorbals Street.

So now off to Cumbria.
