After breakfast and checkout, we drove to Brampton in Cumbria which is the town where my Lear family connections come from.
We discovered that there was a memorial stone in the old cemetery to the Lears, including William who died in Australia. Unfortunately, we could not find it.
The cemetery
We went back to the town, Front Street, which was one of the streets where my family lived.
We then drove to Carlisle and eventually found the Archives. William E Lear was apparently a trumpeter in the 2nd Dragoons at the time of his daughter, Hannah's, baptism.
We then drove to Newcastle on Tyne.
The next morning we drove to the Discovery Museum to the archives. More family history hunting.
We went to Gosforth, to look for a church which is no longer there. Finally we ended at quayside.
All Saints church overlooks the water. It was where a family baptism took place in1799.
The Slug and Lettuce was our dinner spot.
After dinner, we took photos on the quayside before going back to the hotel.
